BoE Names Next Ex Officio Student Board Member

The Chappaqua Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Gabriela Brant as the next ex officio student member of the Board of Education. Gabriela, who will be entering 11th grade at Horace Greeley High School this fall, will officially begin his one-year term on July 1, 2026.

This role is designed to provide regular and direct communication between the Board and the student body, fostering a meaningful partnership that supports student voice, leadership, and civic engagement. Gabriela will represent all six schools, attend regular business meetings during the school year, and share monthly updates on school activities at Board meetings.

“As someone who has spent the past few years becoming increasingly involved in our schools and community, I care deeply about making sure student voices are heard,” Gabriela said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to learn from all of you and help create meaningful experiences for our K through 12 student body.” She then recognized Matthew Wohlstadter for his service in this position stating that he has done an incredible job representing students and contributing to the board's work. “I’ve definitely got some big shoes to fill, but I'm very grateful for the example that he set,” she concluded.

Gabriela’s selection followed a rigorous application process that included a nominating petition requiring peer support, a written essay, and interviews with a panel of Board of Education designees and then the full Board. This process and position is outlined in Policy 2245, which fulfills New York State Education Law §1702(3).

The Chappaqua Central School District congratulates Gabriela on her appointment and looks forward to the valuable perspective he will bring to the Board of Education during the 2026-2027 school year.
