Debit Card Payment System
Debit Cards
You may establish a debit card account to pay for your children's lunch purchases.
MySchoolBucks.com
MySchoolBucks.com is a secure prepayment service for online account deposits. Payment may be made through an existing PayPal account or with a major credit or debit card. A small convenience fee of $1.95 per deposit transaction is charged by the provider. The Chappaqua School District receives no portion of this user fee and does not benefit in anyway financially by this arrangement.
What is a Debit Card System and How Can I Participate?
- Pre-payments of any amount can be deposited into your child's computerized lunch account, to be used for lunch and/or a la carte purchases.
- By checking "NO" a la carte, on the debit card pre-payment form your child will only be permitted to debit a student lunch as described above (They will be allowed to purchase water unless you state otherwise.)
- To access
pre-payment funds a bar code card will be issued for each elementary student and held in the cafeteria to avoid loss. Middle school and High School students use a pin pad to enter their student ID number. Student photo will appear after pin is entered for verification.
- Accounts must maintain a positive balance. Parents will be alerted weekly to low account balances by automated
e-mail alert system. Students with a negative account balance greater than $20 will be denied a la carte purchases.
- Purchases utilizing the
pre-payment system may be restricted until negative balances are rectified.
All balances, positive and negative from the previous school year have been carried over.

Bus Safety
Letter from Mr. Williams
Dear Parents,
My name is Tom Williams and I am a Physical Education teacher here at Westorchard Elementary School. I am also the coordinator of our Bus Safety program. I am in charge of informing all students about our expectations for acceptable behavior on our buses and for resolving conflicts that arise during the year. The rules of the bus as well as our bus disciple plan are carefully reviewed with all classes during the first two weeks of each new school year. This is done during your child’s gym class and it is repeated during our Bus Safety Week. We make every effort to teach all students the importance of following the rules and procedures to insure that all children feel physically and emotionally safe during their ride to and from school.
Sometime in September, Mr. Skoog requested that all parents review our Code of Conduct with their children to reinforce what has been covered in class. Included in this code of conduct for our Bus Safety Plan is a sample of our Bus Reflection Sheet which is a worksheet that your child will be asked to fill out if he/she chooses to misbehave on the bus. This sheet is only given out after a child has been issued a warning or in the case of a much more serious infraction such as hitting another student. These sheets serve as a communication tool for me so that I can keep all parents informed about bus incidents. I keep a record of all worksheet given out and if a pattern of negative behavior is apparent, then I will invite parents and students in to discuss the situation.
In September, I personally meet with all bus drivers to go over our bus rules and discipline plan. I encourage these drivers to communicate with me as well as with parents when there is a problem so that we can take care of the situation before it escalates.
Finally, I am the contact person in school that children will come to if there is a bus problem. If students have a problem they should go and report to me at 2PM. In the case of a conflict, all children involved will come together to meet with me in the afternoon to resolve the problem. We will all go through the steps of a simple conflict resolution process which basically means that children will respectfully state how they feel, what they need, how they can negotiate the two conflicting wants by looking for the third alternative and finally they will reconnect with the person they were in conflict with.
This process has served us well over the past two years, however it is most important for children to understand the necessity to be to totally honest about the details of the conflict and to take responsibility for their part in the conflict. Too often children go home and discuss bus situations with parents and they leave out specific details or alter the story considerably. I do not ride on the school buses so I need to rely on children to be honest so that I can help them through this process. In most cases, I will also do a follow up with the bus driver and classroom teacher to keep them informed about bus incidents. If the problem is a serious one, I will of course contact parents. If I am unsuccessful in determining the truth regarding a bus situation, then I will ask the students involved to go and continue this process with either our principal or assistant principal.
If you ever need to reach me about a bus problem or you have any questions about this program, please call me between 2:00 and 2:15 pm. If I do not answer, please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
