Superintendent's Update #1

August 10, 2022

Dear CCSD Parents and Staff,

I hope this email finds you well and that you are enjoying your summer. I am writing to address the reopening of our schools this September, and to share pandemic information discussed with the Board of Education at last night's meeting.

As of today, the District has not received updated COVID-19 guidance from the NYS Education Department, or the NYS Department of Health, that addresses the 2022/23 academic year.  Given that we are two weeks away from the start of interscholastic athletics, we are taking the following steps to insure safety as we start to welcome our students back to campus for the new school year:

CCSD Extracurricular Program - Cluster Testing
Should three or more cases be identified in a given program (ex. sports team, club), the District may require all participants of that program to submit to COVID-19 testing to continue participation in the program.  This would occur after consultation with the Westchester Department of Health, NYS Department of Health or CCSD’s Medical Director.

7-12 CCSD Athletes Diagnosed with COVID-19
Medical clearance for student-athletes will continue to be required after receiving a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.

CCSD Overnight Field Trips
All staff and students who are participating in an overnight field trip must test negative for COVID-19 on a District-provided antigen less than 24 hours in advance of departure and report those results to the District.

School-Wide Assemblies
School assemblies this fall will be scheduled outside.

Face Masks
Masks will remain optional for non-COVID positive staff and students. Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must wear a face mask inside on days 6-10.

While I understand that you may be looking for additional information regarding the opening of our schools this year, I do need to provide additional time for the NYSDOH, WCDOH and/or the NYSED to communicate with school districts guidance and/or expectations.  Rest assured that I will communicate in as timely a manner as possible.

We appreciate your support and good will over these past couple of years and look forward to welcoming our students back this September.

Sincerely,
Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
