A message from the Superintendent

Superintendent's Update #10

September 20, 2021

Dear Chappaqua Central School District Families and Staff,

I hope this email finds you well. Today, the District received an updated COVID-19 FAQ from the Westchester County Department of Health (WCDOH). You may read the full FAQ here.

In a meeting this morning with the WCDOH, school superintendents asked for further clarification on this statement (page 2) with regards to recess and extracurricular activities:

During meals, snacks, chorus, band, orchestra, athletic activities, bus rides, or when outdoors etc. where masking cannot or may not be maintained or monitored, all individuals within 6 feet are considered exposed. Assigned seating should be used whenever possible to limit the number of individuals who are considered exposed, excluded and subject to quarantine. In the absence of such seating or specific information, all students in the room, bus, or activity etc. will be considered exposed.

Last week, we made adjustments to our lunch protocols, requiring that elementary and middle school students be separated by six feet while eating outdoors. Our unvaccinated high school students were advised to do the same. If we need to make further adjustments after additional clarification is received from the WCDOH, we will do so and share this with you.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. Please reach out to your building principal with any questions regarding this notification.

Sincerely,

Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
