A message from the Superintendent

Superintendent's Update #9

September 3, 2021

Dear Chappaqua Central School District Families and Staff,

Yesterday evening, after I sent you Superintendent’s Update #8 with a link to the three-page document entitled, Commissioner’s Determination on COVID-19 Testing Pursuant to 10NYCCR 2.62,” I received a 12-page guidance document from the New York State Department of Health. You can review these guidelines here: Interim Guidance for Classroom Instruction in P-12 Schools During the 2021-22 Academic Year.”

This 12-page document addresses a wide variety of COVID-19 related mitigation strategies including, but not limited to, vaccinations, masking, physical distancing, transportation, sports and extracurricular activities, physical education, recess, testing and HVAC systems.

Our initial analysis leads us to believe that this document is closely aligned to the School Guidance released by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention upon which we relied heavily to formulate our Continuity of Learning Plan. Nevertheless, a more careful analysis is currently underway and all necessary adjustments will be made.

I would also like to share an update on the vaccination status of our teaching faculty by level. We are still working on verifying the vaccination status of all staff and will share this information at our next Board of Education meeting on September 14, 2021.

School % Teaching Faculty Vaccinated
Elementary 98%
Secondary 98%

(Please note: every building is 95% or above.)

As I wrote last evening, over the coming days, I will continue to work with the CCSD administrative team, District physicians, and the Westchester County Department of Health to determine the most appropriate path forward for the Chappaqua CSD. I will share recommendations for how to implement these new requirements with the Board of Education at our next meeting.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Sincerely,

Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
