Superintendent's Update #26

June 7, 2021

Dear Chappaqua Central School District Families and Staff,

I am writing as a follow up to my earlier correspondence. As anticipated, late this evening, the New York State Department of Health released new face mask guidance.

An excerpt from the new NYSDOH face mask guidance is as follows:

Effective June 7, 2021, face masks are not required to be worn outdoors on school grounds, including during outdoor school sports. However, Responsible Parties may choose to require face masks outdoors on school grounds, subject to the parameters of this guidance. No student, teacher, staff member, or visitor may be prevented from wearing an acceptable face mask voluntarily on school grounds.

As a result of this new guidance, mask wearing outdoors will be optional for students and staff moving forward. Please be aware, mask wearing is still required indoors.

During our Board of Education meeting on Tuesday night, I will present an overview of this update as well as our survey feedback.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding. Please reach out to your building principal with any questions or concerns regarding this adjustment.

Sincerely,

Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
