Superintendent's Update #22

June 4, 2021

Dear Chappaqua Central School District Families & Staff,

I hope this email finds you well and ready to enjoy the weekend. I am writing this evening to address recent media coverage regarding potential mask requirement adjustments for schools reported to begin on Monday, June 7, 2021.

Today, New York State Health Commissioner, Dr. Howard Zucker shared that he wrote to the Centers for Disease Control to ask if the CDC objected to eliminating mask requirements for schools starting this Monday.

A full copy of Dr. Zucker’s letter to the CDC can be found here.

I will monitor this situation closely over the weekend to see if we receive any written guidance from the New York State Department of Health that authorizes this change. If either the NYSDOH or Governor Cuomo releases updated written guidance for schools, we will follow this new guidance as presented.

I will reach out to you by 8 pm on Sunday to share any updated guidance and advise you of our mask status for school this Monday.

Sincerely,

Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
