A message from the Athletic Director

Athletic Director's Update #11

January 4, 2021

Dear Students, Parents, and Coaches,

We hope that you enjoyed a safe winter break and are excited to begin the Winter sports season. To help ensure a safe and successful start to our season we wanted to share some important reminders that align with the email, which was sent out yesterday by Dr. Ackerman.

  • Student-Athletes are required to complete the daily participation form each day, prior to arriving at school for practices or events.
  • Students must attend school (either onsite or remotely) to be eligible to participate in athletics.
  • If the athlete has a COVID-19 test result pending, they are not eligible to participate in sports until this is resolved (this is true even when a rapid test is negative but a PCR test result is pending).
  • If the athlete, or someone in the athlete’s household, tested positive for COVID-19 over break, the athlete must have documentation from a medical professional clearing them to return to school prior to being eligible for athletics participation.
  • If the athlete traveled to a US State or country designated as high-risk in the past 10 days, they are not eligible to participate until their 10-day quarantine is completed.
  • If the athlete followed the process to “test out” of a travel quarantine, you must email both negative test results to the school nurse for review. Test results can also be approved on January 4th if brought directly to the screening station.

The status of approved sports remains unchanged, with only low/moderate risk sports (Boys Swimming & Diving, Indoor Track, Skiing, and Bowling), approved to start. High risk sports (basketball, wrestling, ice hockey, and cheerleading) are still awaiting approval from the Governor's office and NYS Department of Health.

We thank you all for your continued support of our programs.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jason Semo
Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education
