A message from the Athletic Director

Athletic Director's Update #5

September 9, 2020

Dear Students, Parents, and Coaches,

I hope that everyone has experienced a great start to the new school year. The purpose of this message is to provide an update on the status of Fall Sports, following information released late last week from both Section One and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA).

On Wednesday (9/2) the Section One Executive Committee released a statement regarding the Fall Sports Season that allows districts to begin Fall Sports programs on September 29th, or delay their season. On Friday (9/4) the NYSPHSAA released Guidelines for a Return to Interscholastic Athletics. While both announcements indicated a common desire to establish athletic opportunities for students, as a District we continue to navigate the areas that require additional clarification prior to being able to finalize our plans.

At this time, our District has not decided if we will run our fall sports program starting September 29th, or if we will delay our start date. We need additional clarity from Section One on multiple outstanding issues to make a fully informed decision.

Our Athletic Department remains committed to providing a safe and meaningful athletic program for all of our student-athletes. The District will make a decision about the start date of our Fall Sports program by September 17, 2020.

I will continue to keep you posted on any important updates as information becomes available. As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns. We thank you for your continued support and patience during this unusual time.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jason Semo
Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education
