A message from the Athletic Director

Athletic Director's Update #4

August 24, 2020

Dear Students, Parents, and Coaches,

I hope that you and your families enjoyed the weekend. The purpose of this message is to provide an update on the status of Fall Sports following today’s announcement from Governor Cuomo.

In Governor Cuomo’s statement regarding interscholastic athletic guidance he explained that low-risk sports (Girls Tennis, Soccer, Cross Country, Field Hockey, and Swimming) may practice and play starting September 21st; while high-risk sports (Football and Volleyball) may begin to practice but are not authorized to play in games at this time. No guidance was provided for cheerleading.

As a department, we are now waiting for the New York Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) and Section 1 to issue further guidance and clarification that will support our efforts in safely moving forward with the fall sports season. NYSPHSAA is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, August 25th, and we anticipate a statement following these meetings.

I will continue to keep you posted on any important updates as information becomes available. As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mr. Jason Semo
Director of Athletics, Health and Physical Education
