A message from the Superintendent

Superintendent's Update #3

July 29, 2020

Dear Chappaqua Central School District Community,

I hope this message finds all of you healthy, and finding ways to enjoy the remaining weeks of summer. As we continue to plan for the reopening of our schools, the health and safety of our students, faculty and school community continues to drive our decision-making process.

The NYS Education Department (NYSED) has allowed an extension of one week for school districts to submit their opening plans. The new submission deadline for our district is August 7, 2020. This will afford us the opportunity to share our preliminary opening plans with you, and consider any additional feedback, before submitting them to NYSED.

As previously shared, the building principals will hold information sessions by Zoom for our faculty on Monday, August 3rd, and for our parents on Tuesday, August 4th.

At the Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, August 5th, the administration will present key components of our Continuity of Learning Plan to the Board. This meeting will take place in-person (maintaining social distance) in the Horace Greeley High School auditorium at 7:30PM. It will be open to the public and also live-streamed. At this Board meeting, I will share recommended adjustments to the 2020-21 school calendar and a phase-in approach to opening our schools for students in September.

Our District team is committed to a thoughtful, collaborative and caring approach as we work through this process. I want to recognize the strength and compassion of the entire school community during this crisis and to thank you all for coming together to support our faculty, staff and one another. Despite the uncertainty we face, we remain unwavering in our commitment to provide all students with a superior instructional and educational experience. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to your building principal or any member of our District team.

Sincerely,

Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
