A Message From The Superintendent
April 21, 2021
Dear Chappaqua Central School District Families,
Our children came to school this morning sharing a range of emotions with regard to the verdict announced yesterday afternoon in the Derek Chauvin trial. Many secondary students engaged in discussions, sharing their reactions to the verdict as they processed their thoughts and feelings with peers, under the leadership of our faculty. I want to acknowledge that the death of George Floyd and the guilty verdict in this case impacts our children differently, and I write to assure you that we will support all of our students and families as we continue our anti-racism, social justice and equity work.
In anticipation of a wide variety of student needs, yesterday we provided resources for our staff, and our secondary principals met with their respective faculties this morning to plan for the day. I would like to share our guidelines and curated resources with you as well, in order to support conversations you may be having in your homes.
We will continue to stand together as a school community, committed to cultivating equitable, affirming, and culturally responsive spaces for our children. We look forward to your continued partnership with us in this important endeavor.
Sincerely,
Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
