High School Students Learn Leadership Lessons From Greeley Grad Bill Ackman ('84)

HG alum Bill Ackman with SEL Fellowship students from Greeley.

Our HGHS SEL Student Fellowship recently had the opportunity to take a trip into NYC to visit with Pershing Square Capital CEO, Mr. Bill Ackman. Mr. Ackman, who grew up in Chappaqua, is an American investor, hedge fund manager and philanthropist who started Pershing in 2004.

Mr. Ackman hosted our students from Greeley and used the opportunity to share his experiences in life and business. The students had an incredible experience with Mr. Ackman and afterwards reflected on some of their key takeaways from their meeting with him, which included the importance of maintaining a healthy work/life balance and surrounding yourself with good people who have your best interest at heart.

Mr. Ackman also impressed on our students the direct connection between success in life and how we deal with failure. Overall, the students had a wonderful time and used what they learned to inform their work moving forward.

MAP Growth Screening

N W E A M A P Growth Assessment. The measurement of student learning through screening is essential as it provides useful feedback to educators, students, and families about how students are progressing. At the building and district level, we use performance data to help teachers and leaders monitor student performance and to determine appropriate and personalized instruction.

In an effort to expand and explore ways we can all support our children through the use of meaningful screening we will be administering the computer-based MAP® Growth™ from NWEA®.

These screenings will be administered to students in grades 3-8 in both ELA and Math from November 12th through December 6th. MAP Growth scores help teachers understand student performance by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers can then use the results to tailor classroom lessons and set personalized goals for students.
