Dear Chappaqua Central School District Families, Our thoughts continue to be with you and our students during the unprecedented situation caused by the coronavirus outbreak. We hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected. Please know that we are here to support our families during this difficult time, so please don't hesitate to reach out to us if you are struggling with any ongoing issues. As you may have already learned, by executive order of Governor Cuomo, schools across the state have been directed to provide remote instruction every weekday through April 14th, even if the district was previously scheduled to be on spring break. This presents a series of unanticipated challenges for us, as we need to be mindful of our contractual obligations, the impending religious observance days, the importance of structure, and the need for our school community to recharge during this stressful time.
We offer these opportunities with the understanding that families may wish to disengage next week, spend time away from technology, and not have their children involved in online learning. We support this decision that only you can make. We also know families may want to stay active in remote learning and engage fully in these opportunities from April 6th - April 13th. We will support that decision as well. During this period, we will have faculty available each day to provide instructional support for students from 8am - 3pm. Consistent with our iLearning practice thus far, all students will be marked “present” unless we are otherwise notified by a parent as described in our iLearning Guide for Families. Our approach attempts to balance all of our different community dynamics, honor the executive order, and respect the current unique place in which we find ourselves. We are excited to see what our students create, to learn about the problems they solve, and to watch them showcase their talents. We thank you for your tremendous and continued support as we work together during this period of extended closure. We will continue to do our very best to support our students and our community during this difficult time. Sincerely, Christine Ackerman, PhD |
