On May 29, the Chappaqua Central School District Board of Education appointed Mr. Ross Cooper as the new Assistant Principal of Roaring Brook Elementary School, effective July 1, 2019.

Currently the Principal of T. Baldwin Demarest Elementary School in Old Tappan, New Jersey, Mr. Cooper began his career in education in 2008 as a fourth grade teacher at Wescosville Elementary School in Allentown, Pennsylvania. After six years in the classroom, he has served as Assistant Principal at Cochran/Jackson Primary Schools in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and Supervisor of Instructional Practice (K-12) for the Salisbury Township School District in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. In those roles, in addition to being involved in the day-to-day school operations, parent communication, student discipline and positive behavioral support, he has also collaborated with teachers to establish a school-wide makerspace program, he partnered with a team of colleagues to investigate and implement research-based literacy interventions and, finally, he has facilitated various professional learning opportunities for teachers on a range of topics including inquiry-based mathematics and writing workshop.

As an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Google Certified Innovator, and co-author of the book, “Hacking Project Based Learning: 10 Easy Steps to PBL and Inquiry in the Classroom,” Mr. Cooper is well-versed in meaningful technology integration to amplify learning, interdisciplinary STEAM experiences, digital citizenship, and inquiry-based learning.

"Ross will be a valuable addition to our leadership team," said Dr. Christine Ackerman, Superintendent of Schools. "His background and experiences in fostering relationships and promoting a culture of learning, along with his extensive knowledge of flexible spaces and classroom design, makes him the ideal candidate to join the Roaring Brook School community."

Mr. Cooper received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Spanish from Muhlenberg College and holds several education certifications along with a master's degree in Special Education from Lehigh University.
