In-Person Wednesday Option For Remote Students
March 3, 2021
Dear K-8 Parents,
As you know, each week, we have asked families to commit to have their child(ren) attend school remotely, or attend in person for the duration of the following week. Up until this point, our CHANGE OF STATUS FORM included only these two options. With regional COVID cases declining, and warmer weather on the horizon, we are hopeful that we will see an increase in the number of students attending school in person. In an effort to support this transition, we have added a third option to our CHANGE OF STATUS FORM which will permit parents to choose remote instruction for the week, but to send their child for in-person instruction for the half-day Wednesday.
It is our hope that remote families may see this opportunity as a way to have their child transition back to in-person learning. It will also serve as an opportunity for a remote student to receive in person instructional support, exchange materials with their teacher(s), book shop in our classroom libraries, and to have their district technology repaired. Of course, it will also provide a valuable opportunity for in-person interaction with their classmates and teachers. Since there is no lunch period on Wednesday, students would wear their masks (other than for a short snack at the elementary level).
Of course, the fully remote option will remain, however, it is our hope that this in-person Wednesday may add a level of comfort for our families who would like their child to have an in-person experience at least once each week. We also hope that it helps many of our students transition back to school in a way that is comfortable for our families.
Please note, that any change of status, including taking advantage of this new Wednesday option, should be recorded on the CHANGE OF STATUS FORM. The change of status form must be completed by Thursday for the following week. Please keep in mind that parents must fill out the Operoo student screener each day a child attends school in-person. (Operoo Screener Directions)
Please reach out to me, or your building administrators, should you have questions about this new option. We thank you for your continued cooperation as we navigate this trying time together.
Sincerely,
Adam S. Pease, Ed.D.
