Superintendent's Update #27

July 8, 2021

Dear Chappaqua Central School District Community,

I hope this email finds you and your family well. On Wednesday, July 7th, Superintendents received the following information from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH):

  1. Given current low rates of COVID-19 transmission, schools/districts may decide to implement revised masking policies consistent with those available in the archived INTERIM GUIDANCE FOR CHILD CARE, DAY CAMP, AND OVERNIGHT CAMP PROGRAMS DURING THE COVID-19 PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY (available here).
  2. Daily reporting to the COVID-19 Report Card is no longer required.
  3. Summer schools in NYS may follow either the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Operational Strategy for K-12 Schools Through Phased Prevention (available here) or the current NYS INTERIM GUIDANCE FOR IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION AT PRE-K TO GRADE 12 SCHOOLS DURING THE COVID-19 PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY (available here).

As a result of this NYSDOH guidance, we have modified our COVID-19 protocols. CCSD will encourage, but not require, that students wear masks while indoors on our campus this summer. To that end, please note the following adjustments to our mask procedures for students and staff:

K-12 Chappaqua Central School District Students - Summer Mask Expectations: Unvaccinated students must wear a mask while on school district transportation. Vaccinated students are not required to wear a mask while on school district transportation. Indoor and outdoor mask use is now optional for all students while on campus, regardless of vaccination status.

Chappaqua Central School District Staff - Summer Mask Expectations: All unvaccinated school district employees must wear a mask while indoors on campus.

The guidance has not changed the District’s responsibility to conduct COVID-19 screenings for students and staff entering our buildings over the summer.

Please note that this new state guidance is applicable only to our summer programs. To date, we have not received updated NYSDOH mask guidance for the 2021-22 school year.

Thank you for your understanding. Please reach out to the Special Education Office or Athletic Department with any questions regarding this notification.
