Superintendent’s Update #30

January 26, 2022

Dear Chappaqua Central School District Families and Staff,

I am writing to share an update about our Continuity of Learning Plan should the public school mask mandate be lifted in the future.

At this evening’s meeting, the following statement was shared by our Board of Education regarding potential changes to the current mask requirements inside our schools:

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have followed the requirements, and should the mask mandate be lifted, then masks will be encouraged, but not mandatory, except on the buses where masks will continue to be mandatory. Until then, we are going to follow the requirements.”

Students, staff and guests must continue to mask in school until the District communicates with you that the mask requirement for public schools has changed. Please understand that should the mask mandate be lifted, depending on the timing of this notification and the way it is communicated, the District may need additional time to inform the community of these new procedures before enacted. This will afford families the necessary time to decide whether or not their children will continue to wear a mask in school and prepare their children for this shift in our procedures. This will also give the District time to review any pertinent information to ensure our actions are appropriate and our communication is accurate as we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and communicate with you as soon as possible when new information is shared with the District that addresses masking requirements in our schools.

Sincerely,

Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
