Chappaqua Schools News Blast March 2009

NEWS BLAST is an electronically transmitted communication from the Chappaqua Central School District sent to subscribers of the district's K12 Alert system. Look for these Blasts throughout the school year to keep up-to-date with news and events around the district.

Budget Update

At the Tuesday, March 3, board of education meeting, Superintendent David Fleishman and district administrators provided an overview of the 2009-2010 school budget and a detailed look at instructional staffing levels for next year. At the Board's request, the presentation focused on how the district's class size and instructional program would look with a zero budget increase, including a detailed look at instructional staffing levels for next year. Over the next couple of months, the Board will continue its budget deliberations. Here is the schedule of the remaining meetings and anticipated topics in March:

PTA Budget Coffees

Over the next month, the PTA will be sponsoring four budget coffees for parents and other community members. Two of the budget coffees will focus on specific grade levels, one elementary and one secondary, while the other two will focus on general budget issues. Each meeting will include a short presentation followed by a question and answer session with district administrators and school board members.

Seven Bridges Principal Search Update

The search for a new principal at Seven Bridges is underway and going smoothly. The search committee completed their first round of interviews last week and a group of semi-finalists will participate in interviews over the next couple of weeks that will include classroom observations. Three finalists will then be selected to participate in all day interviews with constituent groups in mid-April. A final decision should be made shortly thereafter.

Spring Sports are here! On Monday, March 9, all varsity and junior varsity sports teams began their spring seasons. Freshman and modified sports will begin on March 23.

The Horace Greeley Theater Company production "Rhinoceros" will begin tomorrow night and continue through the weekend. Below are the dates and times of each production.

Staff development day on March 27

Please note that schools will be closed on Friday, March 27 due to a professional development day for teachers. All faculty will devote the day to working in teams on district and department goals and initiatives in teaching and learning.
