Board of Education Adopts Budget – Residents Vote on May 21, 2024
A Message from the Superintendent
Dear Chappaqua Central School District Community,
Last evening the Board of Education voted to adopt the proposed 2024-2025 School Budget of $141,856,238, which represents a $3,559,952 increase over the current budget. This will increase the tax levy by 2.99%.
The adopted budget represents an approximately $504,000 decrease from the original budget presented to the Board of Education on January 10, 2024. We listened to the community and reduced the budget based on this feedback.
The budget presented still exceeds the tax cap, and will require passage by least 60% of those who vote. We anticipate our proposed tax levy increase will be lower than many comparable school districts in the region.
The whole budget is tailored to achieve several key objectives. These include reducing elementary class sizes, enriching our elective course selection, advancing our technological infrastructure, and addressing safety concerns voiced by both staff and community members. Our goal is to ensure every student benefits from an exceptional and holistic K-12 educational journey, while being mindful of the financial health of our district and our district families.
Click here to access the presentations shared during our Board of Education meetings and use our tax calculator below to see what your individual anticipated tax change would be under this budget. The budget book will be available on our website and in printed copy during the week of April 29th at the main office of each school, the front desk at the Education Center, the Town Hall, and the Chappaqua Public Library.
After the budget hearing on May 8th, there will be a series of opportunities for community members to speak with the district staff should they wish to receive additional information about the budget.
We encourage all community members to vote at the Annual Meeting (budget vote and election of Board members) on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 between 7am and 9pm in the gym at Horace Greeley High School. For voter registration, early voting, and absentee ballot application information, please visit our website here.
Sincerely,
Christine Ackerman, PhD
Superintendent of Schools
