**ELIGIBILITY UPDATE**
Section 3602-e of Education Law defines an “eligible child” as a resident child who is four years old on or before December 1st of the school year in which they are enrolled or who will otherwise be first eligible to enter public school kindergarten the following school year.

Our District kindergarten cut-off is January 1st. As such, we have adjusted our eligibility date so that children must turn four years old by January 1st.

Pre-Kindergarten Community Letter (6-21-24)

Dear Parents of the Chappaqua Community,

We are excited to announce the opening of a Pre-Kindergarten program at our Douglas Grafflin Elementary School campus, beginning in the Fall of 2024. The Chappaqua Central School District brings this exciting new grant-funded program to you in collaboration with Healthy Kids, our chosen community-based organization. Healthy Kids will operate under the purview of the school district, ensuring that it meets our high standards of safety, nurturing care, and educational enrichment for all Pre-K students.

This new UPK program, offered at no-cost to our Chappaqua families, will be open to 36 of our Chappaqua youngsters, who will be split into two sections of no more than 18 students. Each classroom will have a lead teacher and a teaching assistant. A lottery will be conducted if we receive greater interest than available spots. If necessary, the lottery will be held on July 31st. To enter the lottery, please complete this LINKED FORM by July 26th.

So as not to interfere with the Grafflin drop off and pick up, the Pre-K program will run from approximately 9am to 2pm. Once open, the program will follow the CCSD school calendar. Families will provide transportation, as well as lunch and snacks. Before and after school care will be provided by Healthy Kids in the morning from 7am to 9am and in the afternoon from 2pm to 6pm for families in need of this support. The costs for before and after care is the responsibility of the parent.

To be eligible for the program, your child must be 4 years old by January 1, 2025, and must be a District resident. Please visit our STUDENT REGISTRATION WEBSITE if you have not yet registered your child in the District. If you have any questions about your child’s registration status, please contact the district Registrar at (914) 238-7200 x1007 or email registrar@chappaquaschools.org.

Anne Young, Executive Director of UPK Programs for Healthy Kids, and I will be hosting an informational webinar on July 1st, at 6pm. The webinar will be recorded and posted on our UPK Website. A reminder with the webinar link will also be posted online and shared with you next week.

Updates and additional information regarding registration and the lottery system if necessary, will be posted to our new PreK Website.  We look forward to welcoming your children to our Pre-K program.

Sincerely,

Dr. Adam Pease
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Learning
