Our Schools

8th Grade Algebra

Central to our mathematics instructional program is a strong belief that all of our students should receive an equitable and inclusive experience where each has access to rigor as well as the differentiated support required to be appropriately challenged.  Taking Algebra in 8th grade delays the negative impact of MS tracking, aligns with our inclusive philosophy, and affords all of our students the opportunity to reach Calculus as a senior - a significant differentiator in the college admissions process.

8th Grade Algebra Courses

We currently have three mathematics options for 8th grade students, with open enrollment for all three courses. Each course requires at least 10 enrolled students to run. The base curriculum for all three courses is the NYS Algebra 1 curriculum. All 8th grade students will take the NYS 8th grade math assessment. Additionally, students in Enriched Algebra and Algebra 8 are required to take the Algebra Regents in June.

Classwork, assessment, and homework are all designed to inform teaching and learning by the teacher and student, and promote a growth mindset for learning. Assessment is designed to help students understand their learning focus areas. Some of these strategies may include leveled and differentiated assignments; multiple models of classwork or assessment; and purposeful technology integration.

Next year's course options include Enriched Algebra, Algebra 8, and Extended Algebra. Learn more below.

Over the past few years, the District has shared numerous parent communications, collected feedback via parent and student surveys and focus groups, and held multiple presentations and webinars about 8th Grade Algebra.  We will continue to include these prior resources and communications on this site as long as they are accurate to or provide important context for our current program.

  5. Support:  Will will deploy a variety of ways to support learners using extra help, AIS, co-teaching, Greeley student tutors, and STEAM teachers.
