Regulation 1035: Paroled Sex Offenders - Notification Regarding Paroled Sex Offenders

In the event the Superintendent of Schools receives notification with respect to paroled sex offenders residing within the school district, the following procedures will be implemented:

  1. The Superintendent shall relay the notification packet to the Assistant Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent for Business and the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development.
  2. The Assistant Superintendent for Business will share the notification packet with the bus contractor who, in turn, will communicate the information to all bus drivers.
  3. The Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development will share the notification packet with the building principals who, in turn, will communicate this information to building staff, including:
    • teachers
    • teaching assistants
    • teaching aids
    • clerical/monitors
    • custodians
    • security personnel
    • coaches/co-curricular advisors
  4. Building principals, the Assistant Superintendent for Business and the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development, will then place the notification packet in their office file for future reference.
  5. The Superintendent of Schools shall direct the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Leadership Development to convey the notification information to all groups utilizing school district facilities for activities involving children.
  6. The Superintendent of Schools shall compile a list of as many non-public schools, religious education and recreation facilities, and regularly scheduled after-school youth groups as District personnel are able to collect, plus mention of the Chappaqua Public Library. The list will be made available to the Division of Parole when/if the Superintendent is notified that a paroled sex offender is being released into our area. It is understood that the Division of Parole is responsible for notifying all childcaring organizations.
  7. The Superintendent of Schools shall communicate to the community at large the fact that a paroled sex offender is residing in the Chappaqua Central School District. The communication method may include, but is not limited to, the following: direct mailing, public access television, public access radio and print media.
  8. All questions should be referred to the District Clerk who, in turn, shall refer these matters to the Division of Parole.
  9. If further questions arise, the District Clerk shall consult the Superintendent of Schools and, if directed, with the school district's counsel.
