Board of Education Committees - Charges and Responsibilities
Advisory committees may be established by the Board of Education to study significant issues affecting the school community. These committees are appointed at the discretion of the Board, in accordance with state law and regulations, to gather information and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of options under consideration. Committees may be asked to provide recommendations to the Board, which the Board may accept, reject, or return for further study.
General Committee Guidelines:
- Committees shall meet at least four times per year.
- The Board of Education president shall appoint a chairperson to coordinate the agenda, convene meetings, and serve as a liaison to the Board.
- The chairperson should solicit agenda proposals from all committee members and should strive to include all proposals that fall within the purview of the committee on a meeting agenda during the current year.
- A quorum shall consist of a majority of committee members.
- Committees shall report on their business at the monthly Board of Education business meeting.
