19:22
evening again and welcome to everyone to
19:25
our first meeting of the Twenty twenty
19:27
Twenty twenty twenty-one school year I
19:29
know it doesn't feel like the first
19:31
meeting because school hasn't started
19:33
yet
19:33
but it's the first meeting of our fiscal
19:36
year so we're all excited for the
19:39
beginning of a new year and there's a
19:40
lot in store for the year ahead and
19:42
we're looking forward to making a lot of
19:45
progress together so I hope that
19:48
everyone is having a good start of the
19:49
summer we're happy to welcome new
19:51
administration administrators and staff
19:54
I also want to welcome the new PTA
19:56
leadership
19:57
president Kelley mo field and vice
19:59
president Peggy Macchado we're looking
20:01
forward to working with you in your
20:03
roles we had a really great and very
20:06
productive start of the year with the
20:10
administrative retreat that the board
20:12
was invited to join the retreat was last
20:14
this past Monday and Tuesday and the
20:17
topic was on anti racism and social
20:19
justice education in Chappaqua we had
20:23
two presenters and moderators from the
20:27
NYU metropolitan center for research on
20:30
equity and the transformation of schools
20:32
and we covered topics such as expanding
20:36
our common language unpacking common
20:39
terms having a culturally responsive
20:42
sustaining education an inclusive
20:44
curriculum we looked at a culturally
20:48
responsive curriculum scorecard which is
20:50
a great tool to assess the work being
20:53
done to diversify the curriculum and we
20:56
did some work on our implicit biases we
20:59
also had doctors Brenda and Franklin
21:01
Campbell Jones who attended our last
21:03
meeting and they led talks on equity and
21:07
transformative action in schools and we
21:10
covered issues such as constructive
21:12
conversations and tools for cultural
21:15
proficiencies and bringing about
21:17
systemic change so the efforts have
21:20
begun to make changes to our curriculum
21:21
and school culture and environments and
21:24
it's starting with highly personal work
21:26
and an understanding of the importance
21:29
of authentic honest conversations so
21:33
everyone reaffirmed a strong commitment
21:34
to embedding this work on an ongoing
21:36
basis and having it become part of the
21:39
fabric of our school community and I
21:42
just want to express a lot of
21:44
appreciation to Christine and all of the
21:46
administrators for including the board
21:48
it's a real privilege for us to see
21:51
firsthand the high level of thinking
21:53
involved in and the dedication to the
21:55
work so thank you so much Christine Adam
21:58
John Tony and all of the other district
22:01
and building level administrators so I
22:03
know you'll continue to do this
22:04
important work and we'll be doing it
22:06
with you in the community throughout the
22:08
summer and into next year
22:11
so I just want to give the board members
22:14
if you want an opportunity to see
22:16
anything about the retreat or not we
22:18
could talk about it another time but no
22:22
I just like to say one thing I'd like to
22:25
thank Jane again for her leadership last
22:27
year and for Holly for leading the board
22:29
through a very good year and sometimes a
22:33
little tough year we had some a lot of
22:35
things going on so thank you very much I
22:38
also like to congratulate you Vicky and
22:39
Holly for being our president and vice
22:41
president this year and we look forward
22:43
to your leadership and help we're
22:46
helping run our district Thank You
22:49
Warren
22:52
anyone else I did I just I wanted to say
22:57
thank you to you again Jane and to you
23:00
Vicky Jane for all of your service last
23:03
year and through these very challenging
23:05
times keeping us headed headed in the
23:08
right direction with our with our brains
23:11
and Vicky thank you for what you're
23:14
gonna do for us this year generally just
23:17
want to say to Christine and the
23:18
administrators I am very grateful for
23:20
the opportunity to have joined you guys
23:22
in the anti-racist and social justice
23:25
work over the last two days I continue
23:28
to be impressed with the quality of this
23:31
the discussions the willingness to look
23:35
inside and the deep commitment that I
23:38
see to this work by the administrators
23:42
and the the staff that were there so
23:45
thank you I
23:46
I do feel privileged to have been able
23:48
to spend that time and I look forward to
23:50
continuing to work on this I think they
23:53
told us this isn't something on our
23:55
plate this is the plate and I embrace
23:58
that Thanks
23:59
I just wanted to say that I really look
24:03
forward to Vickie and Holly's leadership
24:06
this year we all support you and are
24:09
very thankful that you're taking on this
24:10
task I know there's a lot of challenging
24:12
work ahead reopening our schools
24:15
changing the culture in our schools
24:17
changing the curriculum and I feel very
24:20
grateful to be working with all of my
24:22
fellow board members I think this is a
24:24
very dead
24:25
a very functional board and I think
24:28
we're all very fortunate to work with
24:29
the administration that we have we
24:32
really do have a remarkable
24:34
forward-thinking hard-working group of
24:37
administrators in our district who are
24:39
very thankful that they include us in
24:40
these retreats it's really helpful for
24:42
us to see all the work that goes into
24:45
everything that the students get on the
24:48
other side I know it's it's a nice
24:50
window that we get as board members to
24:52
see really what goes into making this
24:54
the type of school district that it is
24:56
I feel very thankful to participate in
24:58
it and I just want the administrators to
25:01
know how much we appreciate them and I
25:03
want the community to know how hard all
25:05
of us will be working together to do the
25:08
best for for all of our students and our
25:10
families this year thank you I'm gonna
25:13
just re-emphasize the thanks and also
25:16
say I know we have a number of community
25:18
members with us tonight and to say you
25:21
know we we obviously are weighted and as
25:25
is everybody else in terms of guidance
25:27
and and what we're allowed to do or not
25:29
do but to just reiterate as it's our
25:32
first meeting of the the new school year
25:34
that the board remains very committed to
25:38
being responsive to hearing from you to
25:41
working with you regardless of whether
25:43
we're allowed to be back in our
25:44
buildings or not we know a number of
25:47
people have reached out and please know
25:48
that we encourage you to continue to
25:50
reach out even if we can't be together
25:54
in person yet which we are hopeful we
25:57
will be again soon okay thanks everyone
26:01
and I want to reiterate what everyone
26:03
said thank you so much Jane for your
26:05
leadership last year you led us through
26:07
some really uh great initiatives good
26:10
times and also some very challenging
26:11
times so and I look forward to this year
26:14
working with a really strong board and a
26:16
strong administrative team so I'd like
26:19
to address for a moment the reopening of
26:22
schools I want to start by thanking our
26:24
teachers and administrators and
26:27
especially the students and parents for
26:29
the incredible effort that was required
26:31
to move really quickly and unexpectedly
26:34
to adapt to the closing of our schools
26:37
and distance learning
26:39
um I know that this has affected
26:40
families in different ways and we
26:42
recognize the challenges that the
26:45
closing of schools has caused the board
26:48
has been receiving a number of letters
26:49
from parents on the effect of school
26:51
closure on their children and asking us
26:54
to reopen schools in the fall so we
26:57
share the serious concerns and are doing
26:59
all that we can to prepare and Christine
27:02
will we'll be talking about reopening
27:04
plans but this is a state decision
27:07
that's made by a government the governor
27:09
and it's not a local decision I just
27:12
wanted to read to you a reiteration of
27:15
that that the governor's office sent on
27:16
July 2nd and in his communications he
27:22
says that state law governing schools
27:24
and business closings or openings has
27:27
been in effect since the pandemic four
27:29
started and all such decisions are made
27:32
by state government and not local
27:34
government the governor has also told
27:37
all school districts to have plans ready
27:39
for the new normal in the event schools
27:43
can open the governor hopes schools will
27:45
be open but will not endanger the health
27:48
of students or teachers and will make
27:50
the determination once we have more
27:52
current information and he says again we
27:55
value the opinion of local politicians
27:58
and the state's 700 local school
28:01
districts as to what should be done but
28:03
the public should not be confused on
28:05
this important decision that has
28:07
practical consequences for many so those
28:09
are in the in the governor's words and
28:11
so just to let people know that we take
28:15
guidance from the state on these issues
28:17
they will issue guidance by July 13 and
28:20
local school district plans are to be
28:22
submitted by July 31st and the governor
28:25
has said that he will announce a
28:27
decision between August 1st and 7th so
28:31
like I said our superintendent dr.
28:33
Ackerman will discuss the real winning
28:35
plan in her report also I want to touch
28:39
on the board Advisory Committee on anti
28:41
racism diversity and social justice just
28:44
a very quick short update we will be
28:47
scheduling a board work session very
28:49
shortly to discuss and agree on a
28:51
process
28:52
staff the committee and to ensure that
28:54
it's done in an equitable and inclusive
28:56
way and the hope is that we would
28:59
establish a process that we can use to
29:01
staff other committees and we're looking
29:04
to be more inclusive in our committee
29:06
work in general and have broader
29:07
community input so I would like to get
29:15
to item 5.1.1 these are our board
29:19
committee and liaison assignments so to
29:22
start off may I have a motion to approve
29:25
item 5.1.1 I will move may I have a
29:31
second third okay so I'll go through all
29:36
of the assignments and please let me
29:38
know if there's something missing or
29:41
something that's not not accurate so we
29:44
have the Audit Committee all board
29:45
members will be members of the Audit
29:48
Committee for communications we have
29:51
Jane and myself for policy will have
29:55
Warren and Hillary facilities we'll have
29:59
Holly and Warren health and wellness
30:02
Hilary green committee Warren
30:07
liaison positions for the PTA it would
30:10
be me as it's traditional to have the
30:12
board president CSF will be Jane that's
30:15
a change this year Coalition for youth
30:18
Holly horace greeley scholarship fund
30:21
hilary sports boosters Jayne WPS BA and
30:26
advocacy Vikki and the board Advisory
30:29
Committee on anti racism diversity and
30:31
social justice will be myself and Holly
30:34
and so that is it I believe am I missing
30:40
anything good
30:44
okay may I have a motion to approve
30:45
board committee and yeas on assignments
30:48
we removed removed we just do it okay so
30:52
all in favor please say aye
30:56
okay
30:58
opposed okay the motion carries
31:01
so at this time I'd like to ask for the
31:04
board to approve an amendment to the
31:06
consent agenda with to walk on items
31:10
items 8.15 and 8.16 so may I have a
31:14
motion and a second I move that Warren
31:21
move and we have a second I'll second
31:25
okay
31:26
and I will read the walk on items if
31:29
you'll please be patient with me I will
31:31
retrieve them I'm sorry I'm having some
31:45
trouble hang on a second
32:06
um Lisa can I help you where you put the
32:11
walk on I like we were revised agenda
32:14
Vikki yeah and I also sent you an email
32:17
with the exact wording of both items
32:20
that's what I'm looking for so I
32:24
apologize for the delay everyone Vicki
32:33
would it be easier if I just read it in
32:35
for you I have it okay okay so item 8.15
32:49
be it resolved that the Board of
32:51
Education hereby concurs with the
32:53
determination of the Superintendent of
32:55
Schools dated June 23rd 2020 upholding
33:00
principle and recourse Ilias five-day
33:02
suspension of student number zero seven
33:05
zero eight two zero and be it further
33:08
resolved that the board hereby
33:09
authorizes the board president to sign
33:11
the board determination letter on behalf
33:13
of the Board of Education and directs
33:15
the district clerk to send the board
33:17
determination letter to the students
33:19
parents item 8.16 be it resolved that
33:22
the Board of Education hereby authorizes
33:25
its president to sign a tender agreement
33:27
with MGM insurance company as surety and
33:30
Empire Corp Group LLC as tender
33:33
contractor for project work at the
33:35
Horace Greeley High School and Chapel
33:37
call library as presented to the board
33:39
at this meeting and subject to final
33:41
review by the school attorney a copy of
33:45
said agreement shall be incorporated by
33:46
reference within the minutes of this
33:48
meeting okay all in favor for amending
33:54
the consent agenda with these items
33:56
please say aye
33:57
and I okay
34:01
believe that's unanimous thank you
34:04
and now we'll move on to the
34:07
superintendent's report Thank You Vicki
34:11
before I go I know we had because the
34:15
agenda is different tonight we were
34:17
going to provide an opportunity for the
34:19
committee reports before I went right so
34:25
that I didn't know if any of the
34:26
committee's wanted to report yeah
34:30
actually um if this is a good time we
34:33
have a Facilities Committee update is
34:38
that okay Vicki yes please go ahead okay
34:41
and so the Facilities Committee has met
34:45
twice easily on June 25th and July 8th
34:50
which was just today the primary focus
34:56
has been on reopening our fields and in
35:01
tracking courts and so as of right now
35:04
the committee is recommending that the
35:07
district began reopening for certain
35:08
low-risk activities specifically right
35:11
now the reopening of the tennis courts
35:14
the running track and the throwing pit
35:16
and we recommend that the fields and
35:19
school playgrounds remain closed for now
35:22
and then as Vicki mentioned we're also
35:25
taking a look at the way that the
35:28
committee is structured and when we meet
35:31
in our work session we'll make some
35:33
suggestions as to how we may have a
35:36
Facilities Committee and perhaps a
35:39
Community Advisory Committee on
35:40
facilities but we'll have more details
35:42
after we have worked out our committee
35:46
processes Lauren did you want to add
35:48
anything did it perfectly all right so
35:52
we will the district will open those
35:54
areas on Monday we have to do some prep
35:57
work in order to make that happen and
35:59
then I'll send a communication out on
36:01
Saturday morning with a updated reminder
36:06
about the thought exchange okay is this
36:09
a good player um okay so let me just
36:13
share my screen thank you
36:19
okay so for the superintendence report
36:22
tonight and this is one of the the
36:25
reorganization meeting is not a meeting
36:26
where we typically have a presentation
36:28
but I would like to highlight a few
36:30
things for the community the first is if
36:33
you saw the news today you saw that
36:35
Governor Cuomo had come out with his
36:38
plan in terms of how he saw himself
36:41
making a decision as to whether or not
36:43
school would be in physical session in
36:47
September so this is this is this is the
36:50
timeline next week state ed is supposed
36:53
to give all districts public schools
36:56
regulatory guidance on how we should be
37:00
thinking about opening our buildings in
37:03
September so right after that happens we
37:08
have a team that's going to meet
37:10
starting on Tuesday and we're going to
37:13
be looking at that guidance and start to
37:16
craft what our reentry will look like as
37:19
a district now how we're going to do
37:22
that will depend on what that guidance
37:24
looks like on Monday but I can tell you
37:26
that we're prepared to have everyone
37:29
come back we're prepared to have
37:31
everyone remote and we're prepared to be
37:33
able to do some sort of blended model
37:35
it's just waiting to see what that
37:37
guidance look like looks like so we can
37:39
make those decisions but if you've been
37:42
following along the way we have been
37:43
able to position ourselves with our
37:46
technology with our cleaning supplies
37:49
with some of the pre-purchasing we've
37:51
been able to do to be able to maneuver
37:53
whatever model we were able to based on
37:56
what that guidance looks like so then
37:59
it's my assumption that there they will
38:02
give us some mechanism to submit a plan
38:04
by July of 31st but they haven't shared
38:07
any of that with any of the local school
38:09
districts so what I plan on doing next
38:12
week as soon as I understand what the
38:14
guidance is is I will release that to
38:16
the community so they understand what
38:18
our what our committee will be grappling
38:20
with and then I will based on what that
38:23
looks like I'll be able to project out
38:25
one we'll be able to release the plan to
38:27
the community of what September will
38:29
look like but of course
38:31
all of that is under the auspice of the
38:34
governor allowing us to move forward
38:36
with opening which we won't know whether
38:40
or not he's going to do until August and
38:43
just a reminder this is what our
38:45
committee looks like we appearance we
38:47
have faculty we have staff members we
38:49
have some experts that will be involved
38:51
we have a few people beyond this list
38:53
that will be joining us as well next
38:55
Tuesday we will begin our meetings but
38:57
we do have a team of people that will be
38:59
coming together and we also know I also
39:00
want to reassure the community that if
39:02
we have to have remote instruction in
39:05
September that will look different than
39:07
it did in March it will have a will have
39:09
more structure to it because we well
39:13
what would happen in September is that
39:15
we'd have to be building relationships
39:17
with students in a very different way
39:19
than what happened in March and we we
39:21
all understand that so we also will be
39:26
using the information that will be
39:27
gleaned from our thought exchange to
39:28
help drive some of the decisions that
39:31
we'll be making as a school community on
39:33
how we're going to move forward so I do
39:36
want to I do want to share with you
39:38
because of what had happened with the
39:41
the coronavirus cluster that our
39:44
community experienced about a week ago
39:49
we had I hit the pause button button on
39:52
having in-person extended school year
39:56
for our students but we will be moving
39:58
forward with having that at seven
40:00
bridges starting next week I want to
40:02
thank our the Department of Health and
40:04
our faculty and our bus drivers because
40:07
yesterday we facilitated testing for all
40:10
of the the adults that will be in close
40:13
contact with our students in order to
40:15
add another layer of safety on in terms
40:18
of facilitating our program because of
40:20
what was happening in our community so
40:22
I'm happy to say that this afternoon and
40:25
it was able to make the decision that we
40:26
would be able to hold this in person
40:28
we'll be sharing that out with our
40:29
families tomorrow and then we'll be
40:33
inviting our students in on Monday and
40:35
we'll be following the protocols that we
40:37
had put in place prior to the start of
40:42
the summer
40:45
so on the agenda tonight you'll see that
40:48
Christie Evers has decided to step back
40:51
from being an administrator and and and
40:53
and she we wish her very well she's gone
40:57
gone back to teaching so we're making
41:00
some adjustments to our PPS structure as
41:04
you already know Allen Daugherty will be
41:06
coming to the district in September and
41:08
rosemary Matthews has agreed to stay on
41:11
to help support the directorship until
41:14
Ellen is able to hire someone to fill
41:17
that role and dr. D'Alessio who's been
41:20
working primarily with our secondary
41:22
families over the course of the past few
41:26
years will be is able to help support us
41:29
as well because rosemary Matthews is um
41:34
will be in a dual role starting in in
41:38
August so we're happy to have Betsy come
41:41
and offer her expertise to us tell bus
41:45
see us through this this time period and
41:47
then we've appointed our CSE chairs and
41:51
in that we've hired Joseph Drew and then
41:54
we have two of our psychologists who
41:57
have moved into these chair rolls out of
41:59
the building so we are moving forward
42:01
and I appreciate Christy and her service
42:04
and I wish her well she's notified our
42:06
family so we'll be sending out a
42:08
communication regarding how we see
42:10
ourselves moving forward for the rest of
42:12
the summer and I was I was hoping that
42:16
Tony could update us on the roaring
42:18
brook principle process so Tony could
42:21
you update the community yes I can thank
42:24
you very much
42:26
we actually had committee interviews
42:27
today as part of the rowing broken soul
42:30
search and thank you to Vicky and Holly
42:33
for joining us as two representatives on
42:36
the board we had a cross-section of key
42:38
stakeholders who participated on the
42:39
interviews from administrators teachers
42:41
administrative assistants parents and
42:43
students who were great that's really
42:45
great questions so we have a strong
42:48
candidate polar and are excited about
42:49
next steps in the process I am hopeful
42:52
that we will have a candidate to
42:55
recommend to the board within the next
42:56
two weeks I
42:57
no the next board meeting is scheduled
43:00
for August but my hope is that we'll
43:01
have someone before that so yeah and so
43:05
if you look at the agenda - thank you
43:07
Tony if you look at the end of tonight
43:09
you'll see that Dorian is ending her her
43:12
principalship early here I'm so Jamie
43:14
Edelman will be filling her shoes until
43:17
we have a new person in position but we
43:20
do anticipate having someone of course
43:22
on September first
43:23
thank you Tony for leading that process
43:25
for us and then we have some
43:27
professional development on the agenda
43:29
tonight so Adam could could you take a
43:31
minute to explain of course thank you
43:36
the board had approved to start with
43:39
eight point nine the board had approved
43:40
a contract with a company E2M
43:43
solutions so that contract that was
43:45
already approved but we wanted to add a
43:47
piece of functionality that company is
43:49
actually building a ruler website for
43:52
our faculty and we're gonna be able to
43:53
load it with all of the ruler resources
43:55
for our faculty it'll have other
43:56
functionality like discussion boards and
43:59
the ability for a faculty to share
44:00
resources and lesson plans and things
44:02
like that and we'll have the whole ruler
44:04
curriculum loaded in there but they've
44:06
given us the opportunity to have this an
44:09
additional single sign-on with Google so
44:11
that will just help us for $300 help
44:13
things be more seamless for our faculty
44:15
so that that small change will increase
44:18
the accessibility of that site so we
44:20
asked the board to approve 8.9 8.10 you
44:24
may remember CSF a generous CSF donation
44:27
CSF through an Instagram process we had
44:31
Susan Lonnie and Regina Magee submitted
44:34
an Instagram to get enough of the novel
44:37
night for all of our 10th graders to
44:40
read it at the same time so the CSE
44:42
approved an Instagram of just under two
44:44
thousand dollars which the board had
44:45
already approved in the winter of this
44:48
past year we were asking for one day of
44:51
professional development Jean Rose is a
44:53
teacher in a nearby school district and
44:55
she's been doing this activity called a
44:57
night in a day where tenth graders read
45:00
the novel night in a day and they engage
45:03
with a series of speakers night if
45:05
you're not familiar with it it's about
45:06
the Holocaust and so it's a it's an
45:09
intense
45:10
for tenth graders and one of the really
45:12
interesting and exciting things about
45:14
this opportunity is that that these
45:16
students are in upper L or the hope is
45:18
that they will be an upper L because
45:20
their 10th graders and we have English
45:21
and social studies students there so
45:23
we'll be able to utilize that as a kind
45:25
of an interdisciplinary experience which
45:27
is exciting for us because that was the
45:29
vision of that upper l space originally
45:31
and then the last one we just lost this
45:33
discrete here but that's okay I'll kind
45:36
of talk through that next one if we can
45:37
get that back up um the next one eight
45:40
point twelve eight point one
45:42
- I thought Vicky did a really nice job
45:45
summarizing that's the contract that we
45:47
had with NYU for them to NYU Metro
45:50
Center for them to present at the
45:52
administrative retreat on the 6th and
45:54
the 7th so Vicky talked I was going to
45:56
summarize a little bit but I think Vicky
45:57
did a really nice job summarizing their
45:59
work around social justice and
46:01
anti-racist work so those are the three
46:04
things that you'll see from curriculum
46:05
and instruction on the agenda tonight
46:08
Thank You Adam and I do I do want to
46:11
take a moment I know the Board thanked
46:12
us for having them be a part of our
46:15
administrative leadership retreat but I
46:17
really want to extend my gratitude to
46:19
the Board of Education for learning
46:20
alongside of us and being part of our
46:23
our educational community in a way that
46:26
I'm not used I have I've never seen
46:29
board members be so engaged in a way
46:32
that our Board of Education is and what
46:34
in our leadership development and our
46:37
curriculum the way that this board of
46:39
education is so I do want to express my
46:40
gratitude on behalf of the
46:41
administration for your support and your
46:44
willingness to join us and learn
46:46
alongside of us so thank you thank you
46:49
for that and that concludes my
46:53
superintendents report thank you thank
46:57
you so much Christine okay so that leads
47:01
us to the public comment period we
47:04
welcome public comments and I just want
47:07
to go over the usual protocols and
47:10
respect for each other's time we ask
47:12
that you limit your comments to three
47:13
minutes board members may be contacted
47:16
via email or phone if you'd like to
47:18
speak more extensively to us after the
47:21
public comment period has been completed
47:23
board members may have a discussion
47:25
among themselves regarding the comments
47:27
presented so I'd like to ask anyone
47:31
who'd like to make public comment to
47:32
please raise your hand and we'll call on
47:37
you in the order that your hands have
47:39
been raised so if you could please do
47:43
that now and we'll move you over I see
47:49
Sid Falcon David can you please move him
47:57
over I'm muted can you hear me yes can
48:10
you um can you turn on your video yes
48:14
there you are hi please state your name
48:17
and please go ahead hello my name is Sid
48:20
Foxen I have a roaring brook rising 2nd
48:24
grader and my question is for dr.
48:28
Ackerman you said that you'll have been
48:30
busy making preparations for the fall
48:33
and I was wondering if you could be a
48:36
little bit more elaborative as to those
48:39
plans and specifically as it relates to
48:43
distance learning and your recognition
48:45
that this is the distance learning that
48:48
went on in this spring was not ideal to
48:51
say the least what actions have you
48:55
taken in terms of district-wide
48:58
coordination across the Elementary's to
49:01
have a more thoughtful appropriate
49:06
curriculum for the phone said I just
49:10
want to let you know that the board has
49:12
a protocol that we've agreed on that we
49:13
don't do a back and forth discussion
49:15
during public comment period and but
49:17
we're happy to listen to your questions
49:19
okay we might talk about them at the end
49:21
or address them address those questions
49:24
in a different way but we hate hearing
49:27
the point that you have to make okay
49:30
great thank you you still have some time
49:33
I think no okay
49:34
okay so that was my first question
49:36
an additional question I have is will
49:39
the board be sharing a revised budget
49:42
following the closing of last year's
49:44
school year recognizing that at least
49:49
for the last three months I'm sure that
49:50
the budget in some ways looked different
49:52
and so I'm curious how that landed and
49:56
in addition for the three plans that
49:59
have been submitted or being worked on
50:01
for the upcoming year I'm sure that that
50:04
looks very different from a budget
50:07
perspective versus the budget that was
50:09
just approved and so I would like to
50:11
better understand the Delta for the
50:15
three different reopening plans versus
50:16
the budget that was approved so I guess
50:20
those are those are the you know two
50:22
main areas of my you know questioning
50:29
okay thank you very much sure those
50:32
issues we appreciate appreciate that
50:37
okay anyone else would like to make a
50:40
public comment
50:48
no okay I'm not seeing anyone raise
50:51
their hands so we will we will move on
50:55
then okay I'd like to go to approvals
51:00
and ratifications in item six so may I
51:04
have a motion to approve item 6.1 6.2
51:08
and 6.3 together these are the minutes
51:11
of the June 22nd June 23rd and July 6
51:14
minutes may I have a motion in a second
51:25
I'll second any discussion I should say
51:32
to accept the minutes not approve all in
51:36
favor please say aye
51:39
okay I'll move on to recommended action
51:43
I recommend 7.1 instructional as
51:46
presented I move that we accept the
51:50
superintendent's recommendation sure I
51:52
am 7.1 a discussion all in favor please
52:00
say aye
52:00
I recommend 7.2 non-instructional as
52:05
presented I move that we accept the
52:08
superintendent recommendation for item
52:10
7.2 and I think you're muted but I see
52:17
that you seconded okay is it's just a
52:22
little lag time with the unmute yes I
52:23
second it thank you thank you okay any
52:26
discussion all in favor please say aye
52:30
okay and now we will move on to work to
52:33
item 8 our consent agenda the use of the
52:37
consent agenda allows the board to make
52:38
more effective use of its time by
52:41
adopting a single motion to cover
52:43
relatively routine matters which are
52:46
included so if any member of the board
52:49
wishes to discuss a particular piece of
52:51
business individually on the consent
52:54
agenda please indicate indicate that to
52:57
us and the item will be considered and
52:58
voted on separately
53:01
would anyone like to do that at this
53:02
time so may I have a motion to approve
53:07
the consent agenda and moves we approve
53:10
the consent agenda
53:11
and may have a second okay
53:18
and just so briefly people can know
53:20
what's in the consent agenda we are
53:23
approving summaries we are changing
53:26
policy 94t just to include a new title
53:30
of assistant superintendent for pupil
53:33
personnel services to be included in the
53:36
monthly car allowances and fixing josh
53:38
blocks title we have the assistant
53:41
principals who are authorized to act as
53:45
the principal in the event that the
53:47
principal is not physically present for
53:50
purposes of short term student
53:53
discipline matters we have a
53:58
supplemental defense indemnification
54:00
resolution foods for the board we have
54:04
retainer agreements for our external
54:07
auditor or and for legal counsel and for
54:10
claims auditor we have approvals of
54:13
professional development contracts and
54:15
we are extending our superintendents
54:18
employment agreement so that is what the
54:22
consent agenda consists of may have a
54:25
motion may have a motion to sorry all in
54:29
favor please say aye
54:33
opposed
54:34
okay the motion passes facilities I
54:39
believe we've had a facilities report is
54:41
there anything else to discuss on
54:43
facilities nope okay yeah public comment
54:52
didn't correct it did yes someone has
54:56
their hand up so you might wanna mention
54:57
that I am I waited for a while and I
55:06
didn't see a hand up but public comment
55:08
period has expired
55:09
but if you'd like to communicate with
55:12
the board please feel free to email us
55:14
we're happy to hear from you okay we
55:18
have no financials today item 11
55:21
organization we have item 11 point 1
55:25
which is the annual affirmation of all
55:27
policies previously adopted by the board
55:30
this is required by state law and we do
55:31
that every year as a routine matter so
55:35
may I have a motion to approve item 11
55:37
point one I move 11.1 may I have a
55:41
second a second up Hilary a second
55:48
mm-hmm
55:50
sorry go ahead yeah I just wanted to be
55:53
very clear well this is an affirmation
55:57
of all policies it does not include the
55:59
code of conduct that's a different
56:01
process and we've had a lot of
56:03
discussion about how we need to make
56:04
some adjustments to that and that will
56:06
be done through the policy committee
56:08
over the summer but that's not included
56:10
in this and this in this motion right
56:14
now for approval thank you okay yes
56:18
thanks okay all in favor please say aye
56:23
aye aye okay thank you
56:28
notice of future meetings our next
56:31
meeting our regularly scheduled meeting
56:33
will be Wednesday August 5th at 7:30
56:36
p.m. we will cover the tax warrant and
56:40
the meeting following that would be
56:41
Tuesday September 1st which will be at
56:44
10:30 a.m. and that would be for opening
56:47
day of schools
56:49
it says Horace Greeley high school
56:50
academic Commons I hope that that can
56:52
happen but if not we'll be doing it
56:55
through zoom and I also want to remind
56:58
everyone that as I stated we'll be
57:00
scheduling a separate meeting pretty
57:03
soon possibly next week to discuss to
57:05
have a work session to discuss the
57:06
staffing of our committees
57:08
I have a question Vicki on the 5th of
57:12
August which is our tax warrant meeting
57:15
we normally I believe have a roll call
57:17
vote and then we have to actually sign
57:19
it
57:20
there is on a tax form I'm not sure
57:24
that's gonna work this year maybe we can
57:26
get maybe
57:27
in direction from the state on that we
57:32
said you know if the signatures have to
57:33
be done on the day of the vote the
57:37
signatures for for instance for
57:39
tonight's oaths of office we were
57:41
allowed in additional 30 days to get
57:45
your signatures in person so I will
57:49
check with Margo May our Council and
57:51
find out what the requirements are and
57:53
will comply with those maybe we'll be
57:55
able to be in person by then let's hope
57:58
so okay thank you Lisa and that brings
58:03
us to the end may I have a motion to
58:05
adjourn the meeting at 9:28 p.m. I move
58:10
may have a second all in favor please
58:15
say aye
58:15
aye okay our meeting is adjourned thank
58:19
you so much everyone
