Policy 0121: Technology Philosophy
The Chappaqua Central School District recognizes that the use of technology is an essential element in the educational experience of all students. Technology shall be integrated into the instructional program, providing increased student engagement and deeper student learning. The District shall utilize technology to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of school administration and operation. All users of the District's technological resources shall be expected to practice safe, legal, and responsible use of technology and the information derived thereof, in accordance with the Board of Education's Acceptable Use policies.
The instructional program shall help all students understand the nature and role of technology in an increasingly information based society and learn to utilize technology effectively. Students shall develop proficiency in the use of technological tools. Technology shall be integrated into the academic curriculum in alignment with the National Educational Technology Standards developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
The Superintendent shall ensure that the District acquires and maintains appropriate technological materials and equipment needed to support the academic program. The District shall consider the use of new technologies as they become available to enhance the educational program and improve operational efficiency. Faculty and staff shall receive the training and professional support necessary to understand the use of technological tools and to enable the integration of these tools into classroom work.
Administration and Operation
The District recognizes the opportunity to use technology to enhance the communication, administration and operation of the school district. The District shall invest in a technology infrastructure necessary to support the efficient operation of the school system. A comprehensive maintenance plan shall be developed to ensure the regular upgrading and updating of equipment.
The Superintendent or his/her designee shall ensure that the necessary policies, regulations and procedures are in place to ensure the safe and secure operation of the District's information technology applications and infrastructure.
