President Tipp asked for a motion to convene the public board meeting.

Moved by Warren Messner to convene the public board meeting at 7:32 pm. Seconded by Jane Kimmel Shepardson. Motion passed 5-0.

Information Business Affairs

1.1

President's Report

Victoria Tipp congratulated the winners of the recent Town Board elections and thanked all the candidates for running. She went on to briefly discuss the upcoming House and Senate Tax Bill votes in order to alert taxpayers to potential ramifications to local property taxes and the school budget.

1.2

Superintendent's Report

Dr. Ackerman reported that we will have a look at the new District website at our December meeting. She mentioned that Department Chairs have been working with Principal Robert Rhodes on open enrollment for high demand courses. She also said that 8th grade and High School math teachers are discussing expanding enrollment/changing enrollment procedures for Algebra in 8th grade. Dr. Ackerman also highlighted that building principals are continuing their work with faculty to maximize usage of the new project-based learning spaces.

  • Douglas Grafflin Elementary School Innovative & Programmatic Highlights

    Principal Jamie Edelman, along with teachers Warren Whitney, Sarah Alley and Elizabeth Rose gave a presentation about ongoing innovative learning at Grafflin using project and problem-based learning, maker spaces and new approaches learned at Make Writing Camp.

  • Strategic Planning - Jonathan Costa

    Mr. Costa gave a presentation describing the Strategic Coherence Planning Process. He emphasized the need to connect our processes and for increased strategic focus on our priorities.

  • Patricia Sullivan - Senior Office Assistant-Automated Systems (12 month) 35 hours/week at the Education Center - Special Education Department, effective November 30, 2017, pending Civil Service approval. Her annual salary will be $65,767, Step 20.

Request for Discretionary Leave of Absence:

Resolution to authorize discretionary leave of absence, without pay, for Patricia Sullivan from January 12, 2018 through January 19, 2018.

5.2

BE IT RESOLVED that, the Board of Education hereby approved the attached extension of the Agreement for Services for Theresa Markley effective for the 2017/2018 school year, or earlier at the discretion of the Board of Education, and authorizes the Board President to execute this agreement.

5.3

BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Education approves the Contract with Katonah-Lewisboro Union Free School District for educational services for one student for the 2017-18 school year for the sum of $140,114.07, and authorizes the Board President to execute this Agreement.

BE IT RESOLVED that the Board hereby authorizes its President to sign a Consent & Release Agreement with the Town of New Castle regarding its Streetscape & Infrastructure Improvement Project, No. SSP-02, as presented to the Board at this meeting. A copy of said Agreement shall be incorporated by reference within the minutes of this meeting.

Approve Bid Award No. B2017-13 Construction Labor and Materials: General Construction to J.A.C. Building and Development Group, Inc. For various rates, cost of materials, & projects.

ADDENDUM

5.6

BE IT RESOLVED that the Board hereby appoints Louis Patack, Esq. as the Hearing Officer pursuant to Section 75 of the New York Civil Service Law, with respect to Employee No. 3704, and authorizes the Hearing Officer to hear evidence, make a transcript of proceedings and to issue a written report of his findings of fact and recommendations, including a disciplinary penalty, if any.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby suspends Employee No. 3704, without pay, commencing on November 16, 2017 for thirty (30) calendar days and then with pay during the pendency of these proceedings, if during a time when the employee would otherwise be paid.

2nd ADDENDUM

5.7

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby authorizes the law firm of Shaw, Perelson, May & Lambert, LLP to provide legal representation to the School District in an Article 78 proceeding, In the Matter of Marlin v. Chappaqua Central School District, in accordance with the provisions of the 2017-2018 retainer agreement with the law firm.
